Lady Tornado keep rolling with sweep of UVa-Wise

BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College improved to 9-1 as the women's volleyball team won a 3-0 contest against UVa-Wise Tuesday.

The Lady Tornado used scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-15 for the team's sixth sweep of the season and fourth straight.

The 9-1 start is the best opening 10-game record for King since the 2005 season. The Lady Tornado also pushed a winning streak against UVa-Wise to five straight with three being 3-0 decisions.

Freshman Joscelyn Knott (Lake Mary, Fla.) provided 42 assists on the night.

Kaitlyn Musick (Weber City, Va.) led the offensive attack with 12 kills in only 15 attempts for a hitting percentage of .800. She also had five total blocks. Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.) added 11 kills with 10 from freshman Kelsey Griffitts (Bristol, Va.). As a team King had a .355 hitting percentage with 44 kills and 11 errors in 93 attempts.

Rachel Harding (Abingdon, Va.) was credited with 17 digs.

When King wins the first game, the squad has went onto win all nine matches this season. Mars Hill (N.C.) College was the only team to defeat King in the opening set which resulted in a 3-2 loss for King.

Next on the schedule for King is a home contest with Tusculum (Tenn.) College on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.

UVa-Wise went to 4-8 in 2010.
