King sweeps Concord and Southern Virginia

CONCORD, W.Va. – King College scored a pair of 3-0 victories Tuesday at Concord (W.Va.) University. The Lady Tornado volleyball squad not only beat Concord, but defeated Southern Virginia University as well.

The wins boosted King's record to 18-3. The Lady Tornado used scores of 25-15, 27-25 and 26-24 for the opening victory with Concord. The extra points in sets two and three was the first time this season King played two sets that went past 25 points. The Lady Tornado owns a 4-2 record in sets that go beyond 25 points.

King had set victories of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-15 in the Southern Virginia contest. The two 3-0 sweeps gave King 11 in the first 21 matches of 2010.

Ashley Pittman (Norris, Tenn.) paced King with 14 kills in the opener with 11 from Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.). Kaitlyn Musick (Weber City, Va.) had a .529 hitting percentage as she totaled nine kills.

Shannon Earwood (Carson City, Nev.) provided 17 assists with two aces in the Concord contest. Rachel Harding (Abindgon, Va.) had 14 digs and an assist.

Against Concord Machen had 12 of King's 33 kills. Earwood was credited with 23 assists with two more aces.

Lindsey Burke (Nicklesville, Va.) led the team with a dozen digs with 11 from Harding.

King has a trip to Tusculum (Tenn.) College scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. The Lady Tornado was defeated by Tusculum 3-2 on Sept. 21 in Bristol.
