King Women’s Volleyball vetoes Milligan and Concord on Senior Night

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The King College women's volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of the regular season Tuesday with a pair of victories over rival Milligan (Tenn.) College and Concord (W.Va.) University.

King went to 24-8 on the season after the victories.

In the nightcap against Milligan, King lost the opening set 25-21. The Lady Tornado then won the next three 25-13, 25-19 and 25-17. For King it was the 12th straight win over Milligan and the Lady Tornado won a 3-1 contest at Milligan on Sept. 28.

Sarah Van Goethem (Aurora, Colo.) had a match-best 13 kills to lead the Lady Tornado attack. Senior Morgan Machen (Kingsport, Tenn.) and freshman Kelsey Griffitts (Bristol, Va.) each added 10 kills.

Senior Rachel Harding (Abingdon, Va.) had a productive night with 21 digs in the Milligan match and 20 against Concord.

Shannon Earwood (Carson City, Nev.) had 38 assists against Milligan and 35 in the Concord contest. She also served eight aces, which is a season high by any King player, in the nightcap.

King used set scores of 30-28, 25-15 and 25-12 for the sweep over Concord.

Machen had a dozen kills with 11 from Van Goethem and senior Kaitlyn Musick (Weber City, Va.). Musick was credited with nine kills against Milligan.

Fellow senior Amber Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) totaled 11 digs on the day with a pair of assists as well.

The next time out for the Lady Tornado will be on Thursday with a trip to UVa-Wise for a 6:30 p.m. match. King defeated UVa-Wise 3-0 on Sept. 14 in Bristol.
