North Greenville Bests King, 3-1

Mariah Herington led the Lady Tornado with 10 kills in King's 3-1 loss at North Greenville, Tuesday night.

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – North Greenville took a 3-1 decision over the King Lady Tornado volleyball team on Tuesday night. Mariah Herington led King with 10 kills while Grace Underwood had a day both at the net and on the attack.

Teams swapped a pair 25-16 victories behind strong hitting percentages and net play but North Greenville took the edge with back-to-back 25-21 set victories en route to the 3-1 decision, favoring the Crusaders.

Junior Mariah Herington (Jonesborough, Tenn.) registered a team-leading 10 kills for the second consecutive match and for the fifth time this season.

Grace Underwood had an all-around effective day both on the attack and defending the net. The freshman from Pearland, Texas went 7-for-16 (.312) offensively and had a combined three blocks (4 assists, 1 solo), contributing to King's total 7.5 as a team.

Freshman Olivia Underwood (Pearland, Texas) tallied 34 of the team's 35 total assists while adding two digs and one block assist.

In the Lady Tornado's lone set win, the team hit at a .280 clip. Conversely in their losses, they failed to break .100 on the attack.

The loss drops King to 13-12 overall and 7-5 in Conference Carolinas. They currently hold on to second place in the West Division with a half-game lead over Lees-McRae and a full game over North Greenville. The Lady Tornado will play Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, N.C. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 in their next bit of action.
