BRISTOL, Tenn. – Kelsey Griffitts became the first King University women's volleyball player to earned first team Capital One All-District III honors since King's transition to NCAA Division II. The senior has led the Tornado attack all season, ranking atop Conference Carolinas in attack percentage.
The Bristol, Va., native carries a 3.97 grade-point-average while majoring in Cell & molecular biology. Griffitts has also been a force on the court as she leads the league and ranks eighth in the latest NCAA Division II rankings through games of November 3 with an attack percentage of .382. After hitting better than .600 in two matches on Wednesday she is now hitting .395 on the season.
She is the third King student-athlete to be named first team Academic All-District in the last three years as baseball player Bryant Walker earned the distinction in 2012 and cross country/track & field athlete Hannah Witt earned the honor last spring.
Griffitts and the rest of the King women's volleyball team wrap up regular season play this weekend in the Student Center Complex on Friday and Saturday. The Tornado play Barton College on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. before taking on Mount Olive College and Virginia Intermont College on Saturday.
