BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Conference Carolinas office announced its academic all-conference team for women's volleyball on Wednesday morning, with six King University student-athletes earning a selection based on their outstanding work in the classroom. King had the most representatives of any conference school, as no other institution had more than four student-athletes receive academic all-conference honors.

Kelsey Griffitts, who was recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District III team and is eligible for Academic All-America honors, headlines the Tornado student-athletes named to the team. Griffitts, a senior, carries a 3.97 GPA in Cell and Molecular Biology. She has been one of King's main contributors on the court as well, leading the team and ranking third NCAA Division II with a .396 hitting percentage.

Junior defensive specialist Payton Tipton earned a selection onto the team with her 3.98 GPA. Tipton leads Conference Carolinas in digs and ranks third in the nation in aces per set. Junior outside hitter Summer Kremer has a 3.69 GPA and has provided numerous key contributions to the Tornado this season, ranking second in the conference in kills and kills per set and has a .269 hitting percentage.

Tiffany Baines is a senior defensive specialist with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She has seen action in 12 matches this season, recording 18 digs. Jodan Baty, a junior outside hitter, carries a 3.84 GPA. She has recorded 84 kills, 17 digs, and 19 blocks this year. Junior defensive specialist Brooke Calhoun has contributed 150 digs for the Tornado this season and has a 3.87 GPA in Psychology.

The King University women's volleyball team shared the regular season conference title with Belmont Abbey and received the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Tornado will host seventh-seeded Converse on Saturday at noon in the first round of the tournament.

The 2013 Conference Carolinas Women's Volleyball Academic All-Conference representatives have been awarded to the following junior and senior student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all work completed at their member institution that have played in a conference sponsored sport. The GPA is calculated based on the student-athlete's cumulative average through the previous semester and each student-athlete must have attended their member institution for at least one academic year.
