King gets another victory over Cumberlands, 28-13

BRISTOL, Tenn. - King College was a 28-13 winner over the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) Tuesday in a home women's wrestling contest as the Lady Tornado improved to 6-2 in dual matches this season.

The top-ranked 44 kilogram wrestler, Lisa Martinez (Amarillo, Texas) started things for King with a 2-0 and 6-0 win over Opelia Felipe. Emily Martin (Frisco, Texas) added a pin 54 seconds into the second period over Jessica Nguyen, ranked sixth nationally, in the 48 kilogram contest.

Cumberlands used a 7-1 and 6-0 decision by Gabby Henry in the 51 kilogram bout against Stacy Martin (Frisco, Texas) to get on the board. King led 9-4 after the match. Henry came in ranked second nationally in the 51 kilogram division.

Sarah Anderson (Schuylerville, N.Y.) fell behind Milagros Zamora 2-0 after the first round, but she rallied for a win in three. Anderson defeated the nationally ranked Zamora 3-0 and 1-0 in the final two rounds.

Haylee Childs (Lakeland, Fla.) helped King with her 3-1 and 1-0 win in the 59 kilogram meeting against Breisja Macera. Alli Ragan (Carbondale, Ill.) won again, a 3-0 and 1-0, result over Cianah Hee.

Christen Paysse gave Cumberlands three points as she beat Hanna Martin 4-1 and 4-0. Martin's point helped as King owned a 19-9 lead over Cumberlands after the 67 kilogram match. Paysse was ranked second nationally in the preseason ranking from WCWA.

Even in defeat, Tasha Galarza (New Britain, Conn.) gave King a point in the 72 kilogram meeting. She was overtaken by Megan Agajanian after winning the first round.

Amber Floyd (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) put King over the top with her three points against Sydney Nelson in the 80 kilogram match. Floyd won the contest 0-1, 3-0 and 4-2.

Freshman Marina Lambert (Chesapeake, Va.) pinned Lakia Henderson, the second-ranked 90 kilogram wrestler, to end the match. It was Lambert's second win over the ranked Henderson this season.

King started the season with a 34-7 score over Cumberlands on Oct. 23.

After the match, Cumberlands fell to 3-3 in dual matches.

Next for King will be the highly competitive NYAC Open on Nov. 21 in New York, N.Y.
