Junior World medalist Alli Ragan (Carbondale, Ill.) will lead a group of 13 Lady Tornado wrestlers into Lakeland, Fla. for the 2012 Body Bar Women's National Championships. The tournament will sponsor a double-elimination tournament format with finals in each of the nine weight classes being determined in a best-of-three series.
Ragan won the 2011 Body Bar Women's Championship with back-to-back bout victories over Team Alaska's Rachael Shannon in the 63 kilogram final to represent the U.S. at the World Junior Championships held in Bucarest, Romania. She enters with an advantage, being awarded a bye to the 63 kg championship bout after taking bronze at the 2011 World Junior Championships.
Winners of each weight class offered will represent the U.S. in Thailand at the 2012 Junior World Championships. The runner up will represent the country at the Junior Pan-Am Championships held in Guatemala. Preliminaries for the Junior Division in which King will be participating will begin Sunday, May 13 at 9 a.m. EST.
This is the last chance to qualify for international competition prior to the Senior World Trials held in September. Due to 2012 being an Olympic year, the Senior World Trials are being postponed to allow for the Summer Olympics to conclude.
