BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University had women's wrestlers competing in different places this weekend. Alli Ragan competed in the Battle at the Falls in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada while Sarah Hildebrandt, Amanda Hendey and Julia Salata competed at the Austria Open. Hildebrandt came home with a gold medal in the 55-kilogram weight class.
Hildebrandt started the Austria Open with victories over Nadine Tokar of Sweden and Lenka Martinakove of the Czech Republic. Those wins setup a gold medal bout against France's Aurelie Basset, a bout that Hildebrandt won to take the gold medal.
At the 67-kilogram weight class, Salata took silver after defeating Mathilia Bounxooisana of France and Great Britain's Chloe Spiteri in pool play before falling to Azerbaijan's Nataliya Paramachuck in the gold medal bout.
Also at the Austria Open, Hendey competed in the 63-kilogram weight class and took victories over Kolic Mariana of France and Danielle Lappage in pool play. However, she dropped a close decision to USA's Jennifer Page to finish in fourth place.
In the Battle at the Falls, Ragan defeated former world medalist Natalya Synshyn of Ukraine 12-4 at the 59-kilogram weight class. The win helped give USA a 16-13 victory over the Ukraine. However, Ragan later fell to Canada's Braxton Papadopoulos.
The next event for the Tornado will be the Senior World Team Trials on June 20-22. Later in July, Samantha Klingel (51-kiliogram) and Kayla Brendlinger (55-kilogram) will represent the US at the Junior Pan Am Championships.
