Tornado take home two gold, one silver from NYAC

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The King University women's wrestling team took a break from WCWA competition for the weekend as eight wrestlers competed at the NYCA Holiday International Tournament. Sarah Hildebrandt and Alli Ragan both took home gold medals, and Amanda Hendey turned in a silver medal performance.

Hildebrandt opened competitions at the 55 kg weight class with a 7-0 win over Yulianna Cantu in the quarterfinals. She followed that with a narrow 8-7 decision over Tamar Tillman in the semifinals before defeating Japan's Yuuki Ikegame 8-4 in the finals to take the gold medal. Prior to the finals, Ikegame won all of her matches by tech fall.

Ragan made quick work of her competition at the 59 kg weight class, defeating Kennon Henderson 8-0 in the quarterfinals before she defeated Brazil's Joice Souza Da Silva by fall in the semifinals. She then bested two-time defending tournament champion Michelle Fazzari of Canada 7-0 in the finals to take gold. Ragan was also named Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament.

At the 63 kg weight class, Hendey took wins by fall in the first round and the quarterfinals over Michele Muscato and Alexis Porter, respectively. She then took a 4-2 decision over Jennifer Page in the semifinals before falling to Japan's Yurika Itou 8-0 in the finals.

Samantha Klingel (51 kg) went 2-2 at the tournament while Haley Augello (51 kg) went 1-2. At 67 kg, Julia Salata and Lorrie Ramos both went 1-2 while Brittney Faust went 0-2 at 59 kg.

King will be in action again next Friday at the Missouri Valley Open and the Harry Garis International Duals.
