Brendlinger, McAdoo take second place at Missouri Valley

MARSHALL, Mo. – The King University women's wrestling team continued their WCWA schedule with the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday. The Tornado turned a solid day as four wrestlers finished in the top-5 of their weight classes, including a pair of second place finishes.

Kayla Brendlinger won her first match of the day at the 123 pound weight class on a narrow 3-0 decision over Laken Jowers before defeating Jesse Von Behren of Wayland Baptist University on a fall in 43 seconds. In the quarterfinals she defeated Missouri Baptist University's Montana Drum 10-0 on tech fall before taking a 9-6 decision over Oklahoma City University's Brieanna Delgado to advance to the finals. However, she fell to Missouri Valleys' Jacarra Winchester 8-2, to take second place

At 191 pounds, Malexis McAdoo advanced to the finals after winning her first three matches on tech falls. In the finals, she dropped a tight 4-1 decision to Simon Fraser University's Jenna McLatchy.

Daisy Santos advanced to the quarterfinals of the 109 pound weight class on a pair of falls, but fell in the quarterfinals to Oklahoma City's Cody Pfau. In the fifth place match, Santos defeated Michelle Guerrero of Wayland Baptist on a fall in 1:12. Kerri Bumpers also finished fifth in the 170 pound weight class. She dropped an 8-3 decision to Ruth Leger of Lindenwood University before defeating Jamestown College's Kayla Volin 7-0 to take fifth place.

Shannon Constantine defeated teammate Ashley Iliff to take seventh place at 101 pounds while Megan Black finished seventh at 130 pounds. Hannah Martin also placed seventh at 136 pounds.

The Tornado will have a month off before they compete again at the Carbondale Duals on December 15.
