King athletics has 100% giving for second straight year

BRISTOL, Tenn. – For the second consecutive year, the King Athletic staff achieved a department goal, with 100 percent of full-time staff contributing to the University through the Tornado Athletic Club.

Shelia Crockett, Senior Woman Administrator and Head Athletic Trainer, and Blaine Brown, Head Baseball Coach, led the internal campaign. "It is such an honor to work with a staff who lives our mission and vision and gives of their time and money to support our students," said Crockett. "This year was extra special and having a donor to match our giving was such a blessing. Thank you to all who gave."

The campaign was part of King's United for Our Students employee campaign, which exceeded its goal of $35,000 by generating $56,764 in contributions from King's faculty and staff. In October, King received a $1 million challenge gift from an anonymous donor, who agreed to match every gift to King made before May 31, 2019 up to $1 million. The United for Our Students campaign is helping King meet this challenge.

"Athletics is happy to be a small part of both the United for Our Students campaign and the $1 million matching gift challenge," said Director of Athletics David Hicks. "Our coaches and staff are committed to our student-athletes and to fulfilling King's mission and vision. They give every day with their time, talent, and effort, and for the second consecutive year demonstrated their commitment financially."

All funds donated to the Tornado Athletic Fund by the athletic staff will be used to enhance the student-athlete experience at King by supplementing operating costs and providing an enriching experience at King. "Our athletic staff understands how financial gifts help our student-athletes," added Brown. "Everyone was so generous and eager to help out, it makes me proud to be a part of this department. It was very evident the support the athletic department has in the mission of King University and the values that it stands for."
