King leads the battle for the Blue Ridge Cup

BRISTOL, Tenn. – At the completion of the winter sports and following the cancellation of the spring sports, King leads Lees-McRae College 11-4 in the battle for the Blue Ridge Cup.

Winter Update

On the hardwood, the Tornado men's and women's basketball teams swept all four contests from the Bobcats. The men took an 85-81 win in Bristol before earning a 105-93 win in Banner Elk while the King women earned an 81-57 win at home and a 69-53 win on the road.

Lees-McRae bounced back with points in indoor track & field, finishing higher than the Tornado in each the men's and women's Conference Carolinas Indoor Track & Field Championships.

King took those points back in the pool as the Tornado men's and women's swimming teams finished higher than the Bobcats at the Conference Carolinas Swimming & Diving Championships.

In men's volleyball, King took a 3-0 victory over the Bobcats on January 31 before the remainder of the schedule was canceled.

The final results will be tallied following the school year with the NCAA Graduation Rate, percentage of student-athletes on the academic all-conference teams and overall student-athlete GPA.

Fall Update

King University held a 4-2 lead over Lees-McRae in the eighth annual battle for the Blue Ridge Cup following the fall season.

The Tornado soccer teams gave King the lead with victories over the Bobcats on October 30 with the women taking a 1-0 win and the men earning a 2-1 victory. On the volleyball court, Lees-McRae topped the Tornado 3-2 in Banner Elk, N.C. before King took a 3-0 win in Bristol, Tenn.

The final competition of the fall as in cross country as the Tornado women took one point based on their finish at the Conference Carolinas Championship and the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. King won the conference title and finished 12th at the NCAA Regional. On the men's side, Lees-McRae took the point, finishing third at the conference meet and 16th at the regional.
