THE JOURNEY THUS FAR...
King has struggled finding an offensive rhythm early this season but came out of the gate shooting lights out against Lincoln Memorial in an 82-69 loss. The Tornado shot 41.9 percent from the field and hit 15 threes on 25 attempts (.600) in that game. Since then, the team's shooting percentage has leveled off as the team has not reached 35 percent in the last two games. King has seen five different high scorers in its six games. The Tornado have averaged 61.0 ppg while allowing a shade under 80.0 ppg to their opponents.
COLLINS COMING ON
Captain Kalen Collins has turned it up in the post for the Tornado, scoring in double digits in two of her last three games. She has averaged 10.0 ppg over her last three games and has posted 21 rebounds (7.0 rpg) over that time. She registered 12 points against Limestone (11/29) and Cedarville University (12/3).
SPROUSE MAKING IMPACT EARLY
Freshman Alley Sprouse has made a splash in the scoring column for the Tornado early, posting three 10+ point games in five thus far. She hit the 10-point plateau in three straight games from 11/16 to 11/29, falling just one rebound shy of her first career double-double against Limestone (11/29). Sprouse has managed five or more rebounds in five of the team's six games so far this season.
NEW REGIME LEADING THE WAY
The Tornado introduced a new head coach on July 15 when Josh Thompson was named head coach of the women's basketball team. Thompson spent nine years at Nyack College (Nyack, N.Y.) where he turned around the Warriors program that had never reached the 20-win plateau before his arrival. From 2002-10, Thompson was the head coach and led the Warriors from NAIA to NCAA Division II status, such as the path the Tornado just completed. In 2009, Nyack claimed the NCCAA East Region Championship while Thompson earned Region Coach of the Year honors. In his final season at Nyack, he helped the Warriors to a 21-win season and clinched the program's first-ever NCAA National Tournament appearance.
PRESEASON RANKINGS PUT KING EIGHTH
Before the beginning of the season the Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches' Poll was released with King ranking eighth in the 12-team league. The Tornado tied for the eight spot with North Greenville receiving 46 points each in the poll. In the West Division, King stacks up tied for fourth, again with North Greenville. Barton (East) and Limestone (West) rank at the top of each division and are ranked first and second, respectively.

WHATS THE DEAL ON MARS HILL?
After winning three of their first four games to open the season, the Lions have since landed on a three-game losing skid with losses to Pfeiffer (75-68), Lenoir-Rhyne (84-65)and Anderson (73-68). They current are 3-4 overall with all three wins coming against non-conference opponents. The Lions are currently 1-3 away from home and 0-2 in away games coming into their game against the Tornado. Ansley Ricker leads the Lions in scoring, posting 12.3 ppg and has two teammates - Taylor Deal, Danielle Tucker and Tyler Carlson - averaging double-digit scoring. Deal also leads her team in boards (6.7) per game and has the second-most blocks (6) on the squad.
