ELKINS, W.Va. – On Sunday, the King University men's tennis team opened their fall dual schedule with a narrow road defeat at Davis & Elkins College. The Tornado were one person short of a full roster as they dropped a tight 5-4 decision to the Senators.
Luis Delgado and Moritz Poswiat got King (0-1) off to a good start with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Charles Brunel and Simon Meriau. However, the Senators (1-0) came back with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles before taking the No. 3 doubles match on a forfeit.
Poswiat kept the momentum going as he won his No. 2 singles match of Brunel 6-0, 7-5 to even the dual at two all. Lennard Keswani followed with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Meriau at the third flight, and Seth Carelli earned a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Monty Prado to give King a 4-2 lead in the dual. However, Davis & Elkins took the No. 6 singles match on a forfeit and the No. 5 match 7-5, 7-5, leaving the dual up to the No. 1 singles match between Delgado and Vincent Hamon. Hamon took the first set 6-3, but Delgado bounced back for a 7-5 second set victory. The third set went to a tiebreak, and Hamon pulled out the narrow 7-6 (8-6) win to give the Senators the win.
King will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to Tennessee Wesleyan College to face both Tennessee Wesleyan and St. Catharine College.
