Box Score BRISTOL,Tenn. – Less than 24 hours after a very exciting match, the King University men's volleyball team took the court again against Conference Carolinas opponent the University of Mount Olive. After falling in set one, King won the next three giving them a 3-1 win behind Eddie Moushikhian's 19 kills and Chandler Wellmann's 12 digs.
What seems to be something that King is very comfortable in doing, happened again when Mount Olive came to town. King got on the board first when Matthew Lychock delivered a kill. The Tornado went up 5-3 when Mason Casner delivered a kill but Mount Olive would gain the lead at 15-14 before Nick Serowski tied the game up at 15. Mount Olive would go on a seven to zero run, opening the lead up to 22-15 and eventually win set one, 25-18.
Mount Olive (4-4, 4-2 CC) got on the board first in set two and would eventually go up 5-3 before Jeff Sprayberry gave King the lead at 6-5 off a pass from Wellmann. The score would go back and forth till the Tornado took a two point lead at 19-17. The Trojans would come right back and tie the game up at 19 and then again at 20 before the Tornado allowed only one more point winning set two 25-21.
The Trojans were first to score again in set three but King was quick to retaliate and tie the game up at two on a Nick Drooker service ace. King would go down 11-8 before they scored four points gaining the lead at 12-11, forcing a Mount Olive timeout. Sprayberry would give King a three point advantage at 16-13 on a kill assisted by Lychock. The lead would grow to five points when Casner recorded a kill off a pass from Drooker. The Trojans would get within three but a Moushikhian kill awarded the Tornado set three, 25-21.
King (5-2, 4-1 CC) was able to get on the board first in the final set of the evening on a Stephen Brown kill. Mount Olive would tie the game up at two before King scored three straight points opening the lead to 5-2. The Trojans would gain the lead at 10-9 which resulted in points going back and forth. The set was all tied up at 16 when Sprayberry delivered a kill followed by a Trojans attack error. Casner would give the Tornado a three point lead at 23-20 and Moushikhian recorded a kill, giving King a 25-22 win.
The Tornado recorded an attack percentage of .213 while Mount Olive hit at a .264 percentage. The Trojans tallied 10 team blocks to King's five. Leading the way for the Tornado was Moushikhian with 19 kills and Wellmann with 12 digs. Brown neared a double-double, posting eight kills and nine digs.
King will be back in action next on Tuesday, February 10 when they will host Lees-McRae University at 7:00 pm in the Student Center.
