Box Score BRISTOL, Tenn. – It did not go as planned for the King University men's volleyball team when they hosted Pfeiffer University in a Conference Carolinas contest. Being able to tally the first point in every set was not the answer for the Tornado as they fell to the Falcons 3-0.
King (7-5, 6-2 CC) got on the scoreboard first when Nick Drooker delivered a pass to Stephen Brown who killed it pass the Pfeiffer (10-2, 9-1 CC) defense. The set was tied at three before the Falcons went on a three to zero run opening their lead to 6-3. Back-to-back service errors brought the score to 13-10 followed by three straight points from Pfeiffer opening the score to 16-11 forcing a Tornado timeout. The Falcons would switch between four and five point leads till King brought the contest to within two at 23-21 on a Mason Casner service ace. Pfeiffer would add a point and Nick Serowski would record a kill but the Falcons would tally the final point, winning set one 25-22.
Set two started the same way for the Tornado, this time Eddie Moushikhian delivered a kill off a pass from Drooker. King would gain a three point lead before the Flacons stormed back taking a 10-9 advantage on a setting error. Brown gave the Tornado the lead again at 13-12 off a kill. The game was tied up at 17 but Brown erased the tie with another kill. Pfeiffer would rally and record three straight points but King would end the run on a kill from Moushikhian. The set was tied at 20 but another three point run for Pfeiffer put King in a bind and eventually the Tornado fell in set two, 25-21.
In the final set of the evening, Moushikhian gave the Tornado a quick lead and Jeff Sprayberry stepped into the match with a kill on his first attempt on an assist from Chandler Wellmann to give King a 3-0 lead. The Tornado held a lead most of the way till the scoreboard read 10-10 and Pfeiffer would steal the lead at 12-11 of a King attack error. King and Pfeiffer would switch points before the Falcons added four straight, this time opening their lead to 22-18. Brown got the Tornado back within two at 23-21 but it would not be enough as King fell 25-22 in set three.
King registered an attack percentage of .215 while Pfeiffer hit a percentage of .382. The Tornado added five team blocks to Pfeiffer's four. Leading the way for the Tornado was Brown with 12 kills and five digs. Moushikhian posted nine kills in the match.
The Tornado will be back in action on Friday, March 6 when they will host Alderson Broaddus University at 7:00 pm in the Student Center.
