King closes out regular season with win over Coker

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Closing out their regular season, the King University men's volleyball team squared up against Coker College. King took set one before dropping set two and eventually won the next two cruising to a 3-1 victory to send out seniors Stephen Brown and Mason Casner with a win.

King (15-12)started the game slow before two Coker errors tied the set up at two. The Tornado took their first lead of the set at 5-4 when Eddie Moushikhian took a pass from Nick Drooker and posted a kill. King took a 12-9 lead off a Stephen Brown kill and the lead grew to four at 18-14 off a Moushikhian kill. Mason Casner gave King a 25-17 set one win with a kill to close the set.

Coker (9-18) scored first in game two before King took a 3-2 lead off a Cobras attack error. King trailed 11-9 before Coker tallied four straight points to open the score up to 15-9. The Tornado trailed 20-12 before Casner posted a kill and brought the score to within six on a Coker attack error. King posted three straight to force a Cobras timeout and out of the timeout King brought the score within three at 22-19. The set ended there as Coker took set two 25-20 and tied the match up 1-1.

Set three started with a Coker point before King took a 3-2 lead off a Jeff Sprayberry kill. Brown gave the Tornado a three point lead at 7-4 and King held the lead till Coker tied the set up at 15. Adrian Besson posted a kill giving King a two point advantage at 19-17. Coker posted a kill to tie the match up at 20 but three straight points from King gave them a three point advantage coming to the end of set three. Back-to-back errors from Coker earned the Tornado a set three win 25-21.

The fourth and final set opened fast for Coker when they opened up a 5-1 advantage. Kills from Sprayberry and Brown brought the Tornado back within one at 13-12. The Cobras brought their lead back to five at 21-16 and 23-19 before King made their push. Sprayberry delivered a powerful kill to tie the set up at 25 and Moushikhian tied it again at 26. Coker posted an attack error and Casner tallied a kill for the final point to give the Tornado a fourth set win, 28-26.

Leading the way for the Tornado was Moushikhian with 14 kills while Brown and Sprayberry posted 13 kills. Drooker led King in the digs column with 10. As a team, King hit .325 while Coker posted an attack percentage of .238.

King will be back in action on Saturday, April 18 when they will begin the Conference Carolinas tournament. Place and time is yet to be determined.
