Tornado fall to Harvard in Outrigger Resorts Invite finale

HONOLULU, Hawai'i – Following a day off, the King University men's volleyball team face Harvard University in the final match of the Outrigger Resorts Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai'i. Harvard started fast and didn't slow down, taking the match 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Matthew Lychock gave King an early lead in the first set with a kill, but the Crimson responded with a 9-2 run, opening up an 11-5 advantage.
  • Harvard stretched their lead to 21-9 en route to the 25-12 first set victory.
  • The momentum carried over to the second set as Harvard opened up a 6-1 lead following a 5-0 run. The Tornado couldn't recover as the Crimson took the set 25-16.
  • The third set was the closest of the night as the teams traded points in the early going and Nick Drooker evened the score at 11-11 with a kill.
  • The Tornado later scored back-to-back points, the second on a Jeff Sprayberry kill to pull King within 17-16.
  • After the teams traded points, the Crimson scored the final seven points of the set, taking the fame 25-17 and match 3-0.
  • Sprayberry and Lychock led King with six kills apiece while Drooker and Adrian Besson both posted four kills.
  • Chandler Chrisy dished out 15 assists and Sprayberry, Drooker and Besson led the defense with four digs each.

FOR THE FOES

  • Branden Clemens led the Crimson with 11 kills and Marko Kostich registered 30 assists.
  • Kostich, Casey White and Samuel Murphy led the defense with seven digs each.

UP NEXT

  • King opens Conference Carolinas play on Friday night when they take on Emmanuel College. First serve from the Student Center Complex is slated for 7:00 p.m.
  • Harvard takes on Ball State University on Friday.
