Box Score 2 BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team traveled to Belmont Abbey College to play a pair of matches on Friday afternoon. The Tornado opened the day with a 3-0 victory over St. Andrews University before dropping a 3-0 decision to Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas tilt.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- King scored the final 12 points of the first set against St. Andrews behind the serve of Dalton Johnson. Chris Gerber had a block on the run while Julian Young and Ryan DeLong posted two kills each as King took the set 25-6.
- In the second set, Young started a 5-0 Tornado run that turned a 10-8 lead into a 15-8 advantage with a kill.
- The Tornado closed the 25-12 set win on a 5-1 run, capped by a Johnson block.
- King scored the first four points of the third set behind kills from Gerber and DeLong.
- King later scored four straight points to take a 24-11 lead before taking the set 25-13.
- Chandler Christy posted 26 assists while Gerber posted 10 kills.
- Nathan Veli registered a team-high 10 digs.
- Young added nine kills and six digs.
- The nightcap was a different for the Tornado as Belmont Abbey jumped ahead early, scoring six of the first eight points.
- The Crusaders closed the 25-17 first set win with three straight points to take the lead.
- Belmont Abbey scored back-to-back points twice early in the first set to gain an advantage.
- King worked their way back to within 14-12, but the Crusaders answered with three straight points.
- From that point, the Crusaders went on to take the set 25-19.
- Just as they did in the first two sets, the Crusaders grabbed the lead in the early going, and held it throughout the third set.
- Belmont Abbey used a 5-0 run, followed by a 6-0 run to take a 21-9 lead en route to the 25-16 victory.
- Sean Luhmann led King with nine kills while Jon Wheaton, Jeff Sprayberry and Matthew Lychock chipped in with five kills each.
- Nick Drooker posted 23 assists and six digs while Chandler Wellmann led King with eight digs.
FOR THE FOES
- For St. Andrews, Leandro Custodio posted a team-high five kills.
- Nolan Albrecth led Belmont Abbey with 15 kills.
- Justin Snyder posted seven kills and Gavin Schaffer chipped in with six.
- Jon Lowenhagen registered seven digs and Derek Sullivan handed out 28 assists.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 10 kills for Gerber sets a career-high, besting his previous high of five.
- Young set career-highs with nine kills and six digs.
UP NEXT
- King returns to action again on Thursday when they travel to North Greenville University. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
- Belmont Abbey hosts Lees-McRae College and Alderson Broaddus University on Saturday.
