Tornado fall to #2 Lincoln Memorial in season opener

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The King University men's basketball team had a stiff test in their season opener, taking on the second-ranked team in the country and 2015-16 national runner-up, Lincoln Memorial University. The Tornado stayed close in the early going, but the Railsplitters proved to be too much for King, taking the contest 92-70.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Railsplitters didn't' waste anytime grabbing the lead as the scored the first nine points of the contest, taking a 9-0 advantage five minutes in.
  • Je'Don Young sparked an 8-0 Tornado run with a layup before Mike Salomon and Desean Enzor drilled a pair of triples, cutting the King deficit to 12-10.
  • Leading 14-12, Lincoln Memorial went on a 6-0 run to regain their lead at 20-12 midway through the first half.
  • Jordan Floyd nailed a three-point basket to cut the King deficit to 25-19, but the Railsplitters answered with a 12-3 run to extend their advantage of 15 points with five minutes remaining in the first half.
  • The Tornado closed the first half on a 5-0 run, but the Railsplitters held a 50-33 advantage at the break.
  • King tried to get some momentum going early in the second half, but Lincoln Memorial had an answer each time to extend their lead.
  • The Railsplitters used a 10-0 run to open up a 66-40 lead and eventually led by 31 points as they went on to take the contest 92-70.
  • Floyd and Noble Fahnbulleh led King with nine points apiece in their first game wearing the scarlet and navy.
  • Derick Pope followed with eight points and five rounds.
  • Mack Owens chipped in with seven points and a team-high six rebounds while Shon'Dre Dukes also grabbed six boards.

FOR THE FOES

  • Chris Perry led four Railsplitters in double figures with 20 points to go along with seven rebounds.
  • Emanuel Terry registered 12 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Cornelius Taylor added 13 points and Hunter Spaw chipped in with 12 points.
  • Dorian Pinson led Lincoln Memorial with six assists.
