Falcons top King in three

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Coming off a victory on Friday night, the King University men's volleyball team returned to Conference Carolinas play with a contest against Pfeiffer University. The Falcons set the tone from the onset, taking the contest 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Tornado jumped out to a 4-1 lead behind kills from Sean Luhmann and Jeff Sprayberry, but the Falcons came back and used a 5-1 run to take an 8-7 lead.
  • The set stayed close until the Falcons closed the set on a 4-0 run, taking the frame 25-19 as they hit .419 in the set.
  • Pfeiffer pulled away in the middle of the second set, using a 9-1 run to turned a 10-9 deficit into an 18-11 advantage. The spurt concluded with five straight points for the Falcons.
  • The Tornado were able to cut into the deficit, but not enough as Pfeiffer took a 2-0 lead with the 25-20 victory.
  • King scored four straight points, capped by kills from Nick Drooker and Sprayberry to take an 8-5 lead in the third set.
  • The Tornado held that lead until the Falcons scored five straight points to turn a 15-14 deficit into a 19-15 advantage.
  • From there the Falcons match king point-for-point to take the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
  • Sprayberry led King with 10 kills and eight assists.
  • Drooker handed out 32 assists to go along with five digs.
  • Luhmann chipped in with eight kills and seven digs.

FOR THE FOES

  • Pfeiffer hit .414 in the match and hit over .400 in two sets.
  • Jonathan Martinez led the Falcons with 12 kills and seven digs.
  • Wyatt Hamilton and Fabio Diniz chipped in with 10 kills each.

UP NEXT

  • The Tornado travel to take on Barton College on Friday night and the University of Mount Olive on Saturday. First serve on Friday is slated for 7:00 p.m. and King takes on Mount Olive on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
  • Pfeiffer travels to take on Mount Olive on Thursday night.
