Newring wins 400, King takes 4th at conference championships

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The King University men's track and field team finished fourth of eight teams at the Conference Carolinas Championships and were led by Justin Newring. Newring came away with a pair of all-conference performances, including a first place finish in the 400 meters to lead the Tornado.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Newring qualified for the finals in the 400 meters with a time of 50.09 seconds, taking sixth in the prelims. He then posted a blistering time of 47.53 seconds in the final to win the event by 0.85 seconds. That time is also within 0.04 seconds of his personal record.
  • He also finished third in both the prelims and finals of the 200 meter dash. He finished the prelims with a time of 21.70 seconds before covering the distance in 21.47 seconds in the finals. That time was 0.10 seconds off of his personal best.
  • In the 10000 meter run, Tanner Cook finished fifth for the Tornado with a time of 33:00.57 while both James Russell Ballowe and Charles Ramos both set personal records.
  • Ballowe finished seventh with a personal best time of 33:33.39 and Ramos took ninth with a time of 34:08.09.
  • Dione Louden finished third in the 110 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 15.01 seconds in the finals. In the prelims he posted a wind-aided time of 14.96 seconds to qualify for the finals.
  • In the 400 meter hurdles, Chris Thomas qualified for the finals with a prelim time of 59.42 seconds, finishing seventh. He then took fifth in the finals with a time of 58.64 seconds. Thomas also finished fourth with a triple jump mark of 13.54 meters.
  • Connor Hatfield finished fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:40.99.
  • Also in the 3000 meter steeplechase, Tyler Edwards finished sixth with a personal record time of 10:21.51. He also set a personal record with a 1500 meter time of 4:21.49.
  • Forrest Stuart set a personal record with a triple jump mark of 7.16 meters to finish third.
  • In the high jump, Xavier Caudill finished second, clearing 1.91 meters.
  • In the shot put, Andrew Lai finished seventh with a mark of 11.66 meters and Elijah Farmen took 11th with an outdoor personal record of 10.61 meters.
  • Farmen also finished sixth in the discus with a mark of 39.84 meters and seventh in the hammer throw with a personal record of 38.02 meters.
  • Lai set a personal record with a discus toss of 39.50 meters to finish seventh. He also finished ninth in the hammer throw with a personal record toss of 36.39 meters.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The top three finishers in each event earn all-conference honors with the first place finishers earning first team, second place second team and third place third team honors.
