Albertson's career day leads King past North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The King University women's basketball team squared off against North Greenville University on Saturday afternoon. A strong first half by the Tornado and a career-high performance by Ashley Albertson led King to victory 80-65.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• An early 13-0 run gave the Tornado a 15-2 advantage with 6:05 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Jalan Harper had nine points in the run, including a triple.
• The Crusaders narrowed the gap going into the second quarter, making the score 28-19 with King still holding the lead.
• A 6-2 extended the King lead back to double digits. Whitney Mitchell had a layup at the end of the run to make the score 34-21.
• North Greenville responded with an 8-3 run of their own to get the score back to single digits 37-29, King still leading.
• Back to back jump shots by Sheena Johnson and Mitchell stretched the lead to 45-31.
• At the half, King led North Greenville 46-33.
• A Johnson three-pointer and an Albertson jumper right out of halftime gave the Tornado the largest lead of the game, making the score 51-33.
• The Crusaders cut the lead to nine with 6:21 remaining in the game on a layup.
• Johnson quickly ended the momentum of the Crusaders with a key three-pointer to extend the lead back to 12.
• King closed the game on a 10-0 run to seal the victory 80-65.
• Mitchell had a game high 17 points, Harper had 15, and Johnson had 10.
• Albertson had nine points and grabbed a game high 14 rebounds.

FOR THE FOES

• Karen Donehew had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Crusaders.
• Mychala Wolfe had 15 points and Cameron Carted added 12.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• Albertson had a career-high 14 rebounds for the Tornado, breaking her previous record of 13 which occurred against Mount Olive on March 3, 2016.

• King comes back home to face Southern Wesleyan on Monday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
• North Greenville stays at home to face the University of Mount Olive on Monday night.
