BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University had 96 student-athletes receive academic achievement awards from the D2 Athletic Directors Association (D2ADA). The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.
King ranked third among Conference Carolinas schools with 96 student-athletes selected for the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award. Emmanuel College led the way for Conference Carolinas at 150 while Barton College came in second with 108. King was seventh in the southeast region that includes the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) and Peach Belt Conference (PBC), trailing four SAC schools along with Emmanuel and Barton.
The Tornado baseball and women's soccer teams led the way for King teams each having 10 student-athletes earn the award. King had two teams come in with nine student-athletes honored. Those teams were women's volleyball and men's soccer.
In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Division II institution must be a current dues-paying member of the D2 ADA. The student-athlete must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last semester.
