Ridley named SACC Wrestler of the Week

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's wrestling team got off to a hot start last week as they won their opening dual. One of the keys to that win was Cade Ridley's pin at 285 pounds, on Wednesday Ridley was named South Atlantic Conference Carolinas (SACC) Wrestler of the Week.

The Tornado trailed 21-15 going into the final bout at Belmont Abbey College, but the 2020 NCAA Championship qualifier wasted no time, pinning Jordan Hawthorne in 1:32 to even the dual score at 21. King earned the bonus point on number of pins in the dual, taking two pins to Belmont Abbey's one, giving the Tornado the 22-21 victory.

That marked the second time in his career Ridley has won a dual for the Tornado with a pin. During his freshman year, 2018-19 he pinned Preston Sell of Emmanuel College in 1:13 to give King the 25-24 season-opening dual win.

This marks Ridley's first career SACC Wrestler of the Week award.

Ridley and the Tornado are in action again on Thursday when they travel to take on 12th-ranked Newberry College. The dual from Newberry, S.C. is slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
