DUE WEST, S.C. – The King University women's basketball team got off to a hot start on Tuesday night at Erskine College, making their first six three-point attempts. The Tornado made that standup as they topped the Flying Fleet 71-48.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- The Tornado started out hot from the floor, making their first six three-point attempts, the first three coming from Kiki Samsel.
- Samsel's third trifecta started a 14-0 Tornado run. Ali Golden connected from long range on the run and Ryleigh Fritz gave King a 20-2 lead with another triple.
- A Golden three-point basket and Desiree Bats jump shot gave King a 25-9 lead after the opening quarter.
Second Period
- Erskine started the second period with back-to-back triples before Golden and Samsel got the Tornado back on the board to extend the King advantage to 31-17.
- A Julie Ford layup pushed the Tornado lead back to 18 points as King held a 43-26 lead at halftime.
Third Period
- The Flying Fleet tried to work their way back in the third quarter, scoring the first seven points of the period to pull within 46-33.
- Julie Ford ended the run with a pair of free throws before a Golden layup extended the King advantage back to 50-33.
- A pair of Fritz free throws in the final seconds gave King a 54-40 lead going to the fourth period.
Fourth Period
- Erskine cut their deficit to 54-43 as Mariah Corry made a three-point basket in the opening minute.
- However, King closed the game on a 17-5 run to close out the 71-48 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Samsel led the way with 20 points, going 6-for-11 from three-point range.
- Golden followed with 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists while Fritz add 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
- Ford chipped in with eight points and 14 rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
- Anzya Cook led Erskine with 13 points.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Samsel matches her career-high of 20 points. She set that on January 2, 2020 when she also made six triples in a win at Southern Wesleyan University.
- Golden posts her first career double-double with a career-best 10 rebounds.
- The 14 rebounds for Ford sets a career-high, topping her previous best of 10 boards in November 8, 2019 against Mars Hill University.
