Knight added to Tornado women's basketball staff

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University women's basketball Interim head coach Michael Phelps has announced the hiring of Ashley Knight as an assistant coach.

"King University has hired extraordinary talented young coach," Phelps said. "Ashley Knight comes from one of the top-tier basketball programs in college athletics. Ashley Knight currently holds the blocking record for the University of Alabama."

"During the interview Ashley knowledge of basketball was very impressive. As a new head coach, I was looking to bring in a talented coach that was looking for an opportunity and express passion for impacting lives off the court as well as on the court," Phelps finished. "I believe Ashley will be a great asset to King University and do a phenomenal job of supporting me, our program, and mentoring our student-athletes. I believe Ashley Knight has a bright future in coaching."

Knight, a former NCAA Division I athlete at the University of Alabama, comes to the Tornado after graduating in May 2020 with a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. While at Alabama, she was a member of the women's basketball team. A two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, she holds the school record for blocks in a career.

"Being able to bring my knowledge of the game and my previous experience to these young ladies, I am beyond motivated and passionate to give my all," Knight said. "Head coach, Michael Phelps will be my greatest mentor and I'll do the same for our program. I am blessed to start my opportunity as assistant coach here at King. We have plenty in store for this season. You do not want to miss it."
