BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University women's wrestler
Sage Mortimer had a spectacular opening month to her career donning the scarlet and blue. Her 7-0 record and Missouri Valley Open championship led to her be selected National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Southeast Wrestler of the Month last week, and NWCA National Wrestler of the Month this week.
Mortimer started November with an 11-0 technical fall over Annika Lindberg of Emmanuel College before winning six matches, two over ranked opponents at the Missouri Valley Open at 116 pounds. She earned a first-period pin, coming in 2:52 over third-ranked and two-time All-American Sugey Ceja of Tiffin University in the quarterfinals. In her opening match of the tournament, she earned a 10-0 technical fall over fifth-ranked Carly Valleroy of McKendree University. Mortimer then defeated Mateah Roehl of North Central, who is now ranked seventh, in the semifinals before topping Life University's Salyna Shotwell in the championship bout.
The Tornado will be in action again on December 11 at the North Central Open in Naperville, Ill.
