BRISTOL, Tenn. – On Friday, King University men's swimming freshman
Ben Ramirez had a big week for the Tornado at Milligan College. The Marshall, N.C. native set three Team USA records for the
S9 paralymipic swimming classification.
All three records were set in short course meters on Friday night. The first came in the 50 meter freestyle he smashed the previous record of 29.56 seconds, touching the wall in 27.57 seconds. The next record came in the following event, the 100 meter freestyle. Ramirez's time of 1:02.95 broke the previous record of 1:05.52 by more than 2.5 seconds.
The final record was in the 100 meter butterfly where Ramirez had to be the time of 1:15.13. Ramirez came in five seconds ahead of that pace with a time of 1:09.24. Ramirez has his sights set on competing Tokyo this summer, but will first have to qualify at the US Olympic Trials in June.
