BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball took their first home win of the season with a solid effort against perennial Conference Carolinas power Barton College. The match was tight, but double-doubles from
Joshua Kim and
JT Deppe powered the Tornado to the 3-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- Barton used a 5-0 to open up a 7-2 lead in the early going, but King came back with a 4-0 to pull within 8-7 following a Diego Marcano kill.
- Marcano eventually evened the score at 12 with another kill, but the Bulldogs continued to hold the advantage.
- A 4-0 King spurt put the Tornado ahead before back-to-back points gave King a 20-18 cushion.
- Kim and Constan Tolentino ended the 25-22 Tornado set win with consecutive kills.
Second Set
- Barton used a 4-0 spurt early in the second set to gain separation and a 9-6 advantage.
- The Tornado deficit grew to as many as four, but kills from Kim and Aaron Milstead highlighted a 3-0 run that pulled King within one.
- King later evened the score at 22 and took a 24-23 lead following a Douglas Florencio kill.
- The score was even at 25 before King scored the final two points, the second on a Milstead kill, giving King the 27-25 victory.
Third Set
- Barton jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but King used four straight points to take a 7-6 lead.
- King later scored three straight points to break a tie and take a 14-11 advantage.
- The teams traded 3-0 runs as a Deppe kill put the Tornado ahead 19-17.
- That was all the advantage King needed as the Tornado scored three of the final four points to take the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kim paced the Tornado with 11 kills and 18 digs while Marcano added 11 kills and six digs.
- Deppe handed out 27 assists to go along with 11 digs.
- Tolentino chipped in with nine digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Adrian Iglesias led Barton with 16 kills while Nathan Chaparro accounted for 12 kills and 14 digs.
- Bartosz Slawinski handed out 23 assists and added eight digs.
- Edwin Montaruli registered a match-high 20 digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The double-double for Kim marks his second of the season as he set a career-high with 18 digs. His previous hit was 16 digs.
- Deppe posted his first double-double and matched his career-high with 11 digs.
