SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The King University women's basketball avenged a defeat earlier in the season with a big win at Converse College on Tuesday night. The Tornado turned in their best shooting night of the season as they defeated the Valkyries 86-58.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- Back-to-back triples from Ali Golden got the Tornado off to a hot start, and Ryleigh Fritz connected from long range to give King an 11-2 lead four minutes into the contest.
- The Tornado later closed the quarter on a 14-2 run, capped by a Brianna Dunbar jump shot that gave King a 26-7 advantage.
Second Period
- Fritz started the period with a jump shot, extending the Tornado lead to 28-7 before the Valkyries went on an 8-3 run to pull within 31-15.
- However, the Tornado responded and a Kiki Samsel trifecta stretched the King lead back to 20 points.
- A Trinity Lee layup and Dunbar triple gave King a 25-point advantage before Converse scored the final basket of the half, giving King a 47-27 lead at the break.
Third Period
- The Tornado used an 11-3 run in the middle of the third quarter to open up a 62-36 lead following a pair of Golden free throws.
- Golden then beat the third quarter buzzer with a jump shot that put the Tornado ahead 70-41 going to the fourth period.
Fourth Period
- The King advantage grew to as many as 34 points in the final quarter as the Tornado took the contest 86-58.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Dunbar led the Tornado with 17 points on 6-for-7 shooting, including 3-for-4 from three-point range.
- Lee followed with 15 points while Samsel added 13 points.
- Golden added 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
- Julie Ford chipped in with nine points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.
FOR THE FOES
- Eva Carballo led Converse with 16 points and five rebounds.
- Jordan Brown followed with 12 points and five rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Dunbar set a career-high with 17 points, topping her previous best of eight.
- Ford came within one of her career-high of 13 rebounds.
