DUE WEST, S.C. – The King University women's volleyball team put together a solid performance on Friday evening at Erskine College. The Tornado played well in all facets, defeating the Flying Fleet 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- Julie Ward got off to a hot start with six kills in the opening set. She posted a pair of terminations around an Abigale Jayne on a run that put the Tornado ahead 6-3.
- A block from Allie Zimmerman and Brittney Ramsey put the Tornado ahead 11-6 before a 5-1 run put the set out of reach for the Tornado.
- Back-to-back kills from Kayley Holtzclaw and Jayne ended the spurt as King opened up an 18-11 lead.
- King closed the 25-17 win with three straight kills from Ramsey, Georgia Davis and Jayne.
Second Set
- The second set was tight in the early going until the Tornado went on an 8-0 run to take a 21-10 lead.
- A pair of kills from Holtzclaw around a Zimmerman kill started the spurt before a Caroline Cable termination and Davis ace ended the run.
- Erskine tried to comeback, but Ward came up with a kill, giving King the 25-20 victory.
Third Set
- King took a 4-0 lead to open the third set following a block from Davis and Ramsey.
- The Tornado didn't slow down in the set as the won the frame 25-9 to take the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ward led King with 10 kills and 11 digs.
- Blankenship and Jayne followed with five kills and four digs each.
- Abigail Shaffer led the defense with 15 digs.
- Ramsey led King with six blocks.
- Katie Harless handed out 15 assists and added nine digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Reilly Bartlett led Erskine with seven kills, seven digs and 10 assists.
- Megan Thees accounted for 19 digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The double-double for Ward was her first of the season.

- King travels to take on Emmanuel College on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Franklin Springs, Ga.
- Erskine is in action again on February 28 when they host Barton College.
