BRISTOL, Tenn. – Three King University individuals were recognized with Conference Carolinas weekly awards this week.
Julie Ford of the women's basketball team,
Noah Melendez of the men's volleyball team and
Julie Ward of the women's volleyball team all earned awards this week.
Ford earned her second Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week honor after posting five blocks in three Tornado win. She added a pair of steals and grabbed an average of 7.7 rebounds per game. Offensively she scored 10.7 points per game and shot 56.5 percent from the floor.
Ford also earned this honor on January 25.
Ward earned her first Conference Carolinas Player of the Week honor of the season after registering a pair of double-doubles to lead King to a two of road wins over the weekend. She started with 10 kills and 11 digs in a sweep at Erskine College on Friday night before accounting for 10 kills and 14 digs in a four-set win at Emmanuel College on Saturday. For the week she averaged 2.86 kills and 3.57 digs per set.
Melendez was a force in the back row for the Tornado in two matches this weekend, earning his first Conference Carolinas Specialist of the Week award of the season. In two matches, Melendez averaged 3.88 digs per set…He set a career-high on Friday night with 15 digs at Erskine College, and then topped that mark with 16 digs in Saturday's sweep at Emmanuel College.
The Tornado women's basketball team closed the regular season on Thursday night at the University of Mount Olive at 5:00 p.m. The men's volleyball team hosts North Greenville University on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The women's volleyball team returns to action on March 3 at North Greenville.
