BRISTOL, Tenn. – Prior to the start of the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship, the league announced their All-Conference Carolinas awards. The members of the King University women's basketball team were honored,
Trinity Lee,
Ali Golden and
Kiki Samsel.
Lee garners second team honors for the second straight season. The Knoxville, Tenn., native averaged 13.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. She ranked seventh in the league in scoring and 12th in rebounding. Lee posted three double-doubles on the season, setting career-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Bluefield State College. She also matched a career-high with five assists. She also averaged 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
Both Golden and Samsel earned third team recognition for the first time in their careers. Golden led Conference Carolinas and ranks 30th in NCAA Division II with an assist to turnover ratio of 2.1. The point guard handed out 3.1 assists per game, a mark that ranked sixth in Conference Carolinas. Golden scored 11.2 points per game and made 1.5 three-point baskets per game. The Huntland, Tenn. native's season-high of 20 points came in the season-opener against Emmanuel College while she snared a career-high nine rebounds at Erskine College. She also matched a career-high when she handed out seven assists against Lees-McRae College.
Samsel was one of the most prolific three-point shooters in Conference Carolinas, ranking fourth it the league with a 43.6 three-point field goal percentage. Her average of 2.9 triples per game ranked second the conference and 14th in NCAA Division II. The Louisville, Ky., native knocked down seven trifectas, going 7-for-8 at Chowan University. That matched the NCAA Division II-era school record for three-point baskets in a game. Samsel's average of 13.0 points per game ranked 12th in Conference Carolinas, and on the defensive end, her average of 1.6 steals per game ranked seventh in the league.
King is the fourth seed in the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship as they host fifth-seeded North Greenville University on Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m.
