WILSON, N.C. – The King University men's volleyball team went on the road and earned a Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship Quarterfinal win. The fifth-seeded Tornado traveled to take on fourth-seeded Barton and King came away with a 3-0 victory.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- King used a 5-0 run to turn a 5-3 deficit into an 8-5 lead following a Diego Marcano service ace.
- Joshua Kim had two kills on the run and Jackson Carroll added one termination.
- Barton came back and evened the score at 14, but Marcano came up with a pair of kills around a block from Aaron Milstead and Carroll to give King a 17-14 lead.
- King held off a late Bulldog run as a block from JT Deppe and Milstead gave King the 25-21 victory.
Second Set
- King jumped out to a 5-2 lead following a block from Carroll and Douglas Florencio and kill from Carroll.
- The Tornado later earned a 13-9 lead following a block from Milstead and Carroll and led 18-13 following a stuff from Florencio and Carroll.
- However, Barton came back and took a 19-18 lead with a 6-0 run.
- The team then traded points until King scored back-to-back points, the second on a kill from Carroll to win the set 27-25.
Third Set
- King gained separation in the middle of the set with a 5-0 run, scoring four straight points before a Barton timeout.
- Out of the break, a block from Kim and Milstead gave King a 12-7 lead.
- The Bulldogs came back and pulled within 21-19, but a kill from Milstead started a 3-0 King spurt as a block from Milestead and Marcano gave King a 24-19 lead.
- Marcano later gave King the 25-20 win with a kill as the Tornado took the 3-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kim led the Tornado with 11 kills while Marcano followed with eight kills and 10 digs.
- Milstead posted seven blocks, one solo to go along with five kills and a .556 attack percentage.
- Deppe handed out 31 assists while Noah Melendez recorded 10 digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Nathan Chaparro led Barton with 10 kills and seven digs.
- Adrian Iglesias and Absalon Williams added nine kills each.
- Moses Kresch handed out 31 assists while Edwin Montaruli accounted for 10 digs.
UP NEXT
- King advances to the Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship Semifinals on Saturday. The Tornado will take on top seed University of Mount Olive. The start is time is yet to be determined.
- The Conference Carolinas Men's Volleyball Championship Semifinals and Final will be played in the Student Center Complex on Saturday and Sunday.
