Pearl, Small earn NWCA Scholar All-America Awards

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's wrestling team had two individuals recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) this week when they announced their Scholar All-America awards. Dalton Pearl and Christian Small both earned recognition.

In his freshman season, Small earned All-America honors, finishing fifth at the national championships. He finished his season with a record of 12-4 and finished runner-up at the NCAA Super Region II Championships. Small is majoring in biology.

In his first year on campus, Pearl has a GPA of 3.51 while double majoring in applied science and mathematics and chemical engineering.

These two were part of 345 individuals that were recognized, including 68 that qualified for the NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championships.

In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II Scholar All-American Team, he must have a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with that benchmark at 3.25 for those who qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the season, the dates of competition stipulation was removed from this year's qualifications.
