King has 73 earn D2 ADA Academic Achievement Awards

BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University had 73 student-athletes receive academic achievement awards from the D2 Athletic Directors Association (D2ADA). The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.

King ranked second among Conference Carolinas schools with 73 student-athletes selected for the D2ADA Academic Achievement Award. Belmont Abbey led the way with 80, while King followed in second at 73 student-athletes recognized.

"Our student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom and provide a shining example of true student-athletes," director of athletics David Hicks said. "Even more remarkable is the degree to which so many of them have achieved this in the middle of a pandemic, which created uncertainty and constantly changing situations. As always, our student-athletes rose to the occasion, and I couldn't be more proud of them."

The Tornado women's soccer team led the way for King, having 13 student-athletes earn the award. Men's soccer followed with seven honorees.

In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the athletics director of the Division II institution must be a current dues-paying member of the D2 ADA. The student-athlete must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years of college level work and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last semester.
