BRISTOL, Tenn. - The King Tornado kicked off the 2021 season with a 2-0 nonconference win over Concord Thursday afternoon at Parks Field. It was a dominating performance for King, as they allowed just four shots, with only one shot on goal for the visitors.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tornado came out firing, as they had two shots and a pair of corner kicks in the first 10 minutes.
- Their first shot on goal came just 1:55 into the game when Ben Delisle connected with a strike, forcing the Mountain Lions keeper to make a quick save.
- King recorded a second shot on goal in the 25th minute, when Mate Lengyel took a shot from just outside the box, forcing the goalie to make a sprawling save.
- Lengyel converted in the 38th minute, as the keeper attempted to intercept a Tornado pass, but the ball bounced right to him, allowing him to score with his right foot, giving King a 1-0 lead late in the half.
- In the second half, King came out firing again, as Delisle recorded a shot on goal just 13 seconds into the half. He connected on another shot a few minutes later that sailed over the top of the crossbar.
- King picked up a second goal in the 63rd minute when Joshua Sanchez took a shot from near the midfield stripe that beat an out of position keeper, putting the Tornado up 2-0.
- The Tornado continued to buzz around the net, recording four shots in a one-minute stretch, forcing the Concord goalie to make a pair of rapid fire saves.
- King took one final shot in the 89th minute, when Douglas Alves fired one on goal.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Tornado took 17 shots in the game, with 11 on goal. Delisle led the way, taking six shots, four of which were on goal. Lengyel had three shots on goal, with one goal.
- Dalton Gammon had a relatively easy day, as he was only needed to make one save, which came in the 63rd minute.
FOR THE FOES
- Kyle Brown made nine saves in net for the Mountain Lions. It was the most saves by a Concord goalie since he made 13 saves in November of 2019.
- As a team, Concord took five corner kicks, four of which came in the first half.
UP NEXT
- The Tornado game Sunday against Shaw University has been canceled. King will be back in action Wednesday when they host Mars Hill in a nonconference tilt. Kickoff is at 4:30 p.m.
- Concord will open MEC play Sunday afternoon at Frostburg State.
