HARROGATE, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team traveled to Lincoln Memorial University for a nonconference match that went five sets. The Tornado came back to even the match twice, but couldn't complete the comeback, falling 15-11 in the final set.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- King jumped out to an 8-2 lead following a Sean Haberthy block.
- The Railsplitters chipped away at the deficit and eventually evened the score at 17.
- Lincoln Memorial continued their run, opening up a 23-19 lead.
- King couldn't mount a comeback down the stretch as Lincoln Memorial won the set 25-22.
Second Set
- The set was tight early, but an ace from Diego Marcano and a kill from Haberthy gave King a pair of three-point leads, the second at 10-7.
- A JT Deppe kill gave King a 12-9 advantage before the Railsplitters went on a 4-1 run to even the score at 13.
- The score was again even at 20 before back-to-back kills from Marcano and Suetonius Harris gave King the advantage.
- Harris later gave King the 25-23 win with another kill.
Third Set
- The third set was tight until late in the set when Lincoln Memorial broke a 16-16 tie with six straight points.
- King couldn't recover as the Railsplitters took the set 25-21.
Fourth Set
- Aaron Milstead started the set with a kill before Marcano came up with a block.
- Harris added a pair of kills as King took a 5-0 lead.
- King held the lead there the entire set, opening up a seven-point advantage late in the set as the Tornado evened the match at 2-2 with the 25-19 victory.
Fifth Set
- Lincoln Memorial tried to take control of the set early, scoring three straight points on three straight kills. That broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Railsplitters at 6-3 advantage.
- King worked their way back and pulled within 7-6, 8-7 and 9-8, the final two on kills from Jackson Carroll and Harris.
- However, three straight Railsplitter points extended the King deficit to 12-8.
- The Tornado couldn't recover as Lincoln Memorial won the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Harris and Marcano led King with 14 kills each.
- Deppe posted a double-double with 36 assists and 10 digs.
- Noah Melendez led the defense with 14 digs.
FOR THE FOES
- Justin Sharfenarker led Lincoln Memorial with 18 kills while Cole Campisano followed with 15.
- Johansen Negron chipped in with 11 kills and seven digs.
- Dawson Walker registered 11 blocks while Kohl Kutsch handed out 41 assists and added seven digs.
UP NEXT
- King returns home to take on McKendree University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tornado then take on 11th-ranked Loyola University of Chicago on Saturday.
- Lincoln Memorial takes on Loyola Chicago on Friday evening.
