Tornado roll into day two of NWCA National Duals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The No. 1 King University women's wrestling team went 3-0 on the first day of the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals, including a win over no. 7 Tiffin. The Tornado outscored their opponents 130-2 on the day.

THE BASICS
LOCATION: Kentucky Expo Center; Louisville, Ky.

HOW IT HAPPENED - Limestone
  • The Tornado started the day against Limestone, where they won the first two matches via forfeit.
  • No. 2 Sage Mortimer then won a 16-3 decision before Melanie Mendioza and Phoenix Dubose took back-to-back tech falls.
  • After London Houston claimed a forfeit win at 136 pounds, King would go on to win three of the final four matches via tech fall.
  • At 170 pounds, no. 3 Chey Bowman won via fall, needing just 53 seconds to earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED - No. 7 Tiffin
  • Jaclyn McNichols started things off, winning a 9-0 decision at 101 pounds.
  • After a forfeit win at 109, Mortimer picked up her second win of the day, this one via fall in 4:57 over no. 3 Sugey Ceja.
  • No. 2 Cheyenne Sisenstein won a tech fall at 123 pounds before no. 3 Montana DeLawder won via fall at 130 pounds.
  • No. 2 Ashlynn Ortega also earned a tech fall win while no. 5 Tiffani Baublitz won via fall in 1:44.
  • The final wrestled match was at 170 pounds, where Bowman took home a tech fall win, 12-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED - UW-Stevens Point
  • After McNicholos won a decision to start things off, no. 5 Samara Chavez pinned her opponent in 32 seconds.
  • The Tornado would then win five straight tech falls, including Mortimer (13-0), Sisenstein (10-0), no. 4 Phoenix Dubose (10-0), London Houston (10-0) and Ortega (10-0).
  • After a forfeit win at 155 pounds, Bowman took the mat against no. 5 Jade Herzer. Bowman would end up pinning her opponent in 57 seconds to close out the match.
UP NEXT
  • The Tornado will wrap up the National Duals on Friday. They will face Augsburg at 9 a.m., which will determine their second match of the day.
