SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The King University women's basketball dropped their season-opener on Friday night to Limestone University. The Tornado tried to comeback throughout the night, but Limestone had an answer each time, taking the contest 66-54.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- Limestone got off to a hot start, scoring the first seven points and taking a 10-2 lead in the opening two minutes.
- Down the stretch, King pulled within 16-10 following a layup from Brianna Dunbar and a three-point basket from Jhayda McKinney.
- However, Limestone scored the final six points of the period to take a 22-10 lead.
- The Tornado shot 22.2 percent from the floor in the opening 10 minutes while Limestone shot 57.1 percent.
Second Period
- McKinney started the scoring in the second period with a triple before Dunbar connected from long range to pull King within 24-16.
- The Tornado continued to chip away as their defense held Limestone to a 14.3 field goal percentage in the second period.
- Dunbar scored the final points of the period, pulling King within 30-21 at halftime.
Third Period
- Back-to-back King baskets from Jordan Weir and Ashley Allen pulled the Tornado within 30-25 in the opening minute of the second half.
- A McKinney basket pulled King within 33-29, but the Saints responded with a run following a Jaden Potts bucket that made the score 36-31 in favor the Saints.
- Limestone scored seven straight points to regain at double digit advantage and the Saints led 50-38 going to the fourth period.
Fourth Period
- The King deficit grew to 14 early in the period, but a layup from Allen and three-point play from Jaelyn West pulled King back within 54-45.
- Each time the Tornado tried to get a run going, Limestone had an answer in the final period.
- A Dunbar triple brought the Tornado deficit to 63-54, but King couldn't get any closer as Limestone took the contest 66-54.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- McKinney led the Tornado with 17 points while Dunbar added 13 points.
- Allen chipped in with eight points and 13 rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
- Quin Byrd and Reagan Kargo led four Limestone players in double figures with 17 points apiece.
- Byrd handed out five assists.
- Reagan McCray and Kalisha Hill added 14 points each while Hill snared a team-high 12 rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- McKinney and Allen each set career-highs, McKinney with 17 points and Allen with 13 rebounds.
