King posts two champions, seven placers at Georgia Open

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The King University men's wrestling team had a solid day on Sunday at the Georgia Open with two champions and seven placers. Demetri Teddlie and Trent Mahoney both won titles to lead the way for the Tornado.

LOCATION: Emmanuel College; Franklin Springs, Ga.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • At 149 pounds, Teddlie won all four of his matches, including one by technical fall. He defeated Limestone University's Alex Dilegge 14-12 in the championship bout.
  • Mahoney went 5-0 at 157 pounds, taking his first three victories by fall. He then earned a sudden victory over Hagan Heistand of Campbell University, 5-3.
  • In the championship match, Mahoney earned a 9-5 decision over Montreat College's Traqil Young.
  • Franky Medina finished runner-up at 133 pounds with a 3-1 record. He earned wins by major decision, technical fall and fall before dropping the championship bout to Kaleem Heard of Limestone.
  • At 184 pounds, Dallin Ewart finished third with a 4-1 mark on the day. He started the day with wins by major decision and technical fall before a setback.
  • Following a win in the consolation semifinals, Ewart then pinned Limestone's Kyle Daley in 3:26 to finish third.
  • Preston Soriano, Vincent Galang and Jacob Telles all finished fourth for the Tornado.
  • Soriano went 2-2 at 125 pounds, taking both of his wins by fall over competitors from Emmanuel College. He fell to Campbell's Zak Thompson 5-2 in the third-place bout.
  • At 165 pounds, Galang went 3-2 and fought back with three straight wins following an opening match defeat. He fell in the third-place bout due to injury, taking a fourth-place finish.
  • Telles went 4-2 at 285 pounds, taking three straight wins by fall after falling a quarterfinal. He fell to Luke Davis of Campbell 3-0 in the third-place bout.
