WISE, Va. – The King University women's basketball team dropped their nonconference contest Wednesday night, falling to UVA Wise 100-64.
Brianna Dunbar led the Tornado with 18 points, while
Tori Smiley had 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- It took under 90 seconds for the Tornado to get on the board, as Ashley Allen made a layup to put King up 2-1 early.
- Jaelyn West made a free throw with 6:13 to play in the period, which was followed by Aroa Garcia making a short jumper to bring the Tornado to within 8-5.
- The Cavaliers would close the quarter on a 11-2 run to take a 19-7 lead into the break.
Second Period
- After UVA Wise scored the first six points of the quarter, Michelle Gallegos scored her first points of the game, a jumper that made it 25-9
- Alexa Gramann made a layup with 2:35 to play before Dunbar drilled a three to make the score 36-17.
- After the Cavaliers scored 10 consecutive points, Dunbar made a fast break jumper in the closing seconds to make the score 47-19 heading into halftime
Third Period
- The Tornado scored six of the first eight points of the quarter, with Dunbar knocking down a pair of free throws, while Le'aije Ellington hit a jumper and Jaelyn West making two free throws to make the score 49-25.
- Following a defensive rebound, West fed Dunbar for a fastbreak triple that made it a 62-30 game with 3:59 left.
- King would end the quarter on a 10-7 run, trimming the lead to 72-40 heading to the final quarter.
Fourth Period
- After Dunbar made a jumper, Smiley scored her first points of the night with 8:51 to play when she hit a couple of free throws.
- Smiley would hit a jump shot with 6:41 to play before drawing a foul and making both free throws to make the score 86-48 with 6:12 left.
- She would finish with 10 points on the night, all of which came in the fourth quarter, including a layup in the closing seconds of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Dunbar led the Tornado, scoring 18 points and recording a pair of rebounds.
- Playing in just her second career game, Smiley finished with 10 points, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. All of her points came in the final quarter.
FOR THE FOES
- Two Cavaliers scored 20+ points, led by a 22 point performance from Nia Vanzant and a 21 point performance from Josie Hester.
- Kaitlyn Bailey had nine rebounds, while Caitlyn Ross dished out 14 assists.

- The Tornado will continue their nonconference slate Saturday with a road matchup at Lenoir-Rhyne, with tipoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
