Tornado top Fairmont State, fall to two ranked foes at UPJ Duals

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The King University men's wrestling team travel to Pennsylvania to take on two of the top teams in the country on Saturday. The Tornado opened with a 26-21 win over Fairmont State University before falling to 19th-ranked Lake Erie College 37-6 and sixth-ranked University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown 37-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED – FAIRMONT STATE; W 26-21
  • Fairmont Started with wins in the first three bouts to take a 12-0 lead before Austin Kolikas came up with pin for the Tornado at 149 pounds.
  • Kilikas pinned Caleb Everhard in 52 seconds to cut the King deficit in half.
  • Trent Mahoney followed with a 16-0 technical fall win over Navid Ighani at 157 pounds.
  • At 165 pounds, Bo Perkins gave the Tornado a 15-12 lead with a 12-0 major decision over Jude Childers.
  • Dallin Ewart followed with a 2:16 pin of fourth-ranked Nick Kelbaugh at 174 pounds, giving King a 21-12 lead with three matches remaining.
  • Fairmont State won the next two bouts, evening the score at 21 going into the 285-pound match.
  • Jacob Telles pinned Mason Atkinson in 4:36 to give King the 26-21 win after a one-point deduction.
HOW IT HAPPENED - #19 LAKE ERIE; L 37-6
  • Lake Erie won the first six matches to open up a lead before Ewart got the Tornado on the board.
  • Ewart defeated James Penfold 1-04 at 174 pounds before a pair of Storm victories.
  • Telles again came up with a win for the Tornado at 285 pounds, defeating Honour Kline on a sudden victory 3-1.
  • However, the Tornado fell 37-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED - #6 PITT-JOHNSTOWN; L 37-12
  • Pitt-Johnstown opened with four straight wins before Mahoney pinned Kyler Crawford in 33:35 at 157 pounds.
  • Ewart came up with another win, pinning Jambes Weber in 2:41 at 174 pounds.
  • However, those were the only two wins for the Tornado as Pitt-Johnstown took the dual 37-12.
