NEWBERRY, S.C. — The King University softball team split their games on the first day of the Newberry round robin Saturday, falling to the host Newberry 3-2 in eight innings before thumping Davis & Elkins 9-2 to close out the day.

KING HIGHLIGHTS
- Camryn Haag was 3-for5 on the day, with a home run and two RBI.
- Rikkelle Miller blasted two home runs, with a double and two RBI to lead the Tornado offense.
- Carly Turner threw a complete game against the Senators, allowing one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Neither team recorded a hit until Haag singled to center field in the top of the third, but a strikeout and caught stealing would nullify the inning.
- Erin Foster led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field to give King a 1-0 lead.
- The Wolves tied it in the bottom of the inning, as Hannah Towery hit an RBI double down the right field line.
- Newberry took the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Hailey Hill.
- In the top of the seventh, Miller stepped up to the plate with one out and hit the first of her home runs on the day, this one going over the left-center field fence to tie the game at two.
- After the Wolves left the winning run at third in the bottom of the seventh, King loaded the bases in the top of the eighth but were unable to scratch across a run.
- Newberry took home the win in the bottom of the eighth on a throwing error.

FOR THE FOES
- Widmyer threw a complete game for the Wolves, recording nine strikeouts.
- Offensively, Hannah Towery went 2-for-3, with a double and an RBI along with a walk. Mallena Wright also had two hits, with a run scored and a double.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- It was the Senators who would score first, picking up a sacrifice fly off the bat of Maddie Lavel to take an early 1-0 lead.
- It didn't take long for King to respond, as Maggie Deel hit a two-out double in the top of the second before Haag hit her home run, sending the ball over the right-center field fence to put King out in front 2-1.
- The third inning was good for the Tornado, as they scored six runs on five hits.
- It started when Foster drew a leadoff walk advancing to second when Haylee Dye singled.
- Turner then hit a home run to left-center field, giving the Tornado a 5-1 lead.
- After Davis & Elkins made a pitching change, Miller stepped up and hit her second home run of the day to make it 6-1.
- Deel then laced a double, allowing Lawson to score and moving to third on the throw.
- The Tornado scored one more time when Chelsea Sams singled to score Deel, making it 8-1.
- The Senators would score again in the bottom of the fourth, but a strikeout would thwart any further scoring chances.
- The final blow came in the top of the seventh, when Samantha Helms hit an RBI single to right field, allowing Tori Ryan to score, giving King a 9-2 lead.
