Tornado breeze past Bulldogs

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's volleyball team won their fourth straight match Friday night, sweeping Barton College. Joshua Kim and Suetonius Harris both had 11 kills for the Tornado, while JT Deppe had 34 assists and a team-high six digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • The Tornado scored four of the first five points to take an early 4-1 lead, with Harris picking up two kills.
  • After the Bulldogs got to within 6-4, King scored four straight points, with Aaron Milstead and Harris picking up kills, making the score 10-4.
  • The Bulldogs would get to within 13-10, but a kill from Kellan Kennedy and an attack error handed King a 15-10 lead, which would eventually expand to 17-11.
  • Barton rallied, getting back to within 20-16, but the Tornado were able to hold off the Bulldogs, with Kennedy recording three of the final four points for the Tornado.
Second Set
  • King dominated the set early, taking an early 5-1 lead.
  • Barton got to within 11-8, but King would go on to score three straight points, including a thunderous kill from Harris that made the score 14-8.
  • The Tornado would continue to run up the score, eventually stretching the lead to 17-10.
  • After a Barton kill that made the score 21-13, King scored three straight points, with Chance Hoffman picking up a kill to give King set point, 24-13.
  • The set came to an end on a Barton service ace.
Third Set
  • The Bulldogs held an early lead, before Harris recorded a kill and service ace, giving King a 6-5 lead.
  • Barton was able to keep things close, trailing 13-12 before a pair of points for the Tornado gave them a 15-12 advantage.
  • The largest lead for the Tornado was four, which they held at three points during the set, including at 20-16.
  • King would slowly expand the lead, taking a 21-18 lead before scoring the final four points of the match, including kills from Diego Marcano and a kill from Kim that sealed the set 25-18, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Kim and Harris both led the Tornado attack, recording 11 kills each, while Kennedy and Hoffman both had seven, and Diego Marcano recorded four.
  • Deppe led the back row, with six digs and 34 set assists.
  • Aaron Milstead had a pair of solo blocks for King.
FOR THE FOES
  • Brandon Johnston led the attack for the Bulldogs with 11 kills, also recording a pair of digs and a block assist.
  • Moses Kresch had 13 set assists and a team-high five digs, while Seth Deppe had 10 and three digs.
