BECKLEY, W.Va. – The King University men's soccer team opened the season on Thursday evening at Concord University. The Tornado trailed twice in the second half, but each time responded to even the score as King played to a 2-2 draw with the Mountain Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was played even with a total of five shots, three from Concord and two from the Tornado.
- None of the five shots were on frame in the opening 45 minutes.
- Concord did have the advantage 4-1 in corner kicks.
- The action picked up in the second half with King outshooting the Mountain Lions 7-5.
- Concord came up with four saves on those seven attempts, however.
- The Mountain Lions grabbed the lead in the 61st minute, but the Tornado were quick to respond.
- Pedro Herrera found the back of the net for his first career goal, coming in the 67th minute.
- The tie was short-lived, however as Concord came back and regained the lead in the 69th minute.
- However, King responded again, this time it was Weston Joyner finding the back of the net in the 73rd minute on a free kick.
- Concord had two more chances, a corner kick and a shot that sailed high.
- King had two chances as well in the final 15 minutes, a shot from Kenneth Walton and another shot from Joyner that was on target but was turned away as the contest ended in a draw.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- King led the tally for shots, 9-8 as the Tornado placed six shots on goal to Concord's two.
- As it was for Herrera, the goal for Joyner was the first on his career.
FOR THE FOES
- Concord had the edge on corner kicks 6-2.
- Keegan Grant made four saves for the Mountain Lions.
