BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team struggled early on Saturday afternoon, and were unable to recover, falling 87-65 to Lincoln Memorial University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
- The Railsplitters would score the first four points of the game before Ashley Allen hit a layup, getting the Tornado on the board with 6:26 to play.
- Three minutes later, Kiley Beach hit a layup, pulling the Tornado to within 7-4 with just over three minutes to play in the quarter.
- Lincoln Memorial would score the final 14 points of the quarter, taking a 21-4 lead.
Second Period
- King went 4-6 from the free throw line in the first five minutes, but the Railsplitters were able to take a 36-10 advantage at the halfway point.
- The Tornado cut into the lead slightly, as Jaelyn West hit a pair of free throws, followed a minute later by Torey Walker taking a pass from Jaylasia Office and converted the jumper, narrowing the lead to 39-14.
- After LMU took the lead to 48-16, Brianna Dunbar would hit a pair of free throws with 32 seconds left, making the halftime score 48-18.
Third Period
- Both teams traded buckets early, with Alayna Smith hitting a jumper in the paint for the Tornado to make the score 50-20.
- After the Railsplitters held a 63-30 lead, the Tornado used a free throw from Smith, along with a steal and jumper made by Allen to pull to within 63-33 with 1:10 to play.
- King would go 3-for-4 from the line in the final minute, with Alexa Gramann making a pair with 40 seconds left, narrowing the gap to 27 points at 63-36.
Fourth Period
- Office started the quarter with a jumper for the Tornado, which Allen followed up a minute later with a layup to cut into the lead, 66-40.
- Allen added another jumper with 5:16 left, keeping the Tornado within 28 at 73-45.
- Phillip hit a bucket with 3:17 left, then made the ensuing free throw to complete the old fashioned three-point play.
- Walker hit consecutive buckets around the 1:30 mark, including a fastbreak layup off a steal by Allen.
- Jhayda McKinney would go 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds, but the Tornado were unable to close the gap, falling 87-65.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Allen led the Tornado, posting a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, her fourth career double-double.
- Dunbar and Gramann both scored seven points, with Gramann adding four rebounds, three of which came on the offensive end.
FOR THE FOES
- Lauren Flowers led all scorers, finishing with 16 points on five rebounds, going 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
- Other Railsplitters to score in double figures include Geovana Rios (12) Jordan Maney and Chloe Savage (11 a piece) and Jamyah Winter, who had 10.
UP NEXT
- The Tornado will continue their nonconference schedule Tuesday night when they host Emory & Henry College. Tipoff from inside the Student Center is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
- Lincoln Memorial will play next weekend in the North Georgia Tournament, starting Friday when they take on Clayton State University.
