Hendricks named Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Ashtan Hendricks of the King University men's wrestling team has been named as Conference Carolinas Men's Wrestler of the Week after picking up an upset victory Wednesday night against Belmont Abbey.

Hendricks, a freshman from Jamestown, Ohio, pinned John Carayiannis, who was the number two ranked wrestler in the nation, as well as a two-time returning All-American. Trailing 7-5, Hendricks got a reversal in the second period that put his opponent on his back, winning in 4:48. It came at a critical time for King, who would win the next four bouts, eventually winning the dual 23-22 on tiebreak criteria.

It was the fifth win via pin on the season for Hendricks, who has a record of 5-2 in his first season as a Tornado. His fastest pin came in 31 seconds at the Glenville State Invite.

The Tornado will be back in action Wednesday night when they compete at the University of Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas dual. The dual is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
